Various IRA factions have tried and thus far failed. Thankfully Northern Ireland is learning to live with itself.

This is a stupid fucking move by the government and could cause a lot of grief.

There's so much 'true / false' blame on both sides.

Let it lie now, and lets move on, or this will start up again, and no fucker needs that.

Yes I agree, but it is a never ending argument on both sides. Many innocent Irish were shot and suffered as were English blown up.

Justice will always be sort by both sides understandably, this will not recede until they die, but serves to cause more resent and division.

Best leave sleeping dogs lie.

I think you will find that I said

"IF a soldier is found to have broken the rules of engagement, standing orders or the like and that has resulted in the deaths of innocent Civilians...thats not unfortunate or a mistake, that is murder."

Do you disagree with the statement, if so , why?

Im not blaming the Grunt, If he acted with in the law. I dont know if he did or he didnt, thats why I said 'IF'

And yes...I would much rather conflict were sorted out over a sing song...

The paddy's most deadly weapon: the syrupy Irish ballad.

Don't even joke about it, Cough. Some of us live the nightmare every time there's a family 'do.

The Corparal Killings in Belfast were Civillians murdering soldiers

If you send in shock troops, don't be surprised when they do what they're trained to do, blame the fucking politicians, not the grunts, maybe Whoicidal Maniac would have preferred we sent in the Salvation army and asked everyone there who was rioting, for a jolly good sing song?

No 'comfort letters' for the troops, then.

Reconciliation is a one way street, it would seem.

I agree but IF their are people still aggrieved that Brit soldiers killed their family and there wasnt the 'licence' to do it, those wounds wont heal until there is a resolution.

Re: Bloody Sunday: Ex-soldier arrested over Londonderry shootings
They need to bury this now. blaming individuals will just open up old wounds. The atrocities can never be forgotten, too much hurt on both sides, but we can't go back to those dark days, we must move on and in time when those directly affected leave this earth wounds will heal, hopefully permanently for the future generations that should not have to live through anything like those days.

Of course they are trained to kill.

As a civi Im not going to suggest that Professionalism should be the overriding reaction to a threat and I, like the rest of us, wasnt there that day so I cant judge, but if a soldier is found to have broken the rules of engagement, standing orders or the like and that has resulted in the deaths of innocent Civilians...thats not unfortunate or a mistake, that is murder.

My friend was a Coldstream Guardsmen and he used to tell me the stuff that the brits used to do over their, like using Riot guns to fire the large 'D' type batteries in to the floor so they s would bounce up in to the crowds and break jaws and the like...

Some of the stuff was completely disproportionate to the threat they faced and lets not even talk about collusion.

We know in this day and age, what ever profession you are you have to be whiter than white or be held accountable, thats what this is... accountability

When is it ever cowardly to review your actions and say "We might have got this wrong" ?

Soldiers are trained to kill, they carry arms. The first instance a trained soldier thinks there's danger they will shoot to kill. The way this is all being portrayed as if the British soldiers were indiscriminately murdering civilians. That's not how it works.

What people seem to forget is that the British Army originally arrived to protect the nationalists.

IRA cowards have always had the PR campaign wrapped up
